The Donkey Story....

So, I will just start off by warning you that if you don't know me - I have an odd sense of humor and am easily entertained. That being said, you've been warned before you read this post - you may not find it funny. If you've heard this before, I apologize….

This story begins this spring. We were up in North Carolina visiting my in-laws who summer in the Cashiers/Highlands area. My husband and I were following my brother in-law traveling on a new road. As we are driving, I find this beautiful field filled with yellow wildflowers and two donkeys walking along a barbed wire fence.

You would have thought I was a little kid and there was an ice cream truck! I yell, "pull over! I need to take a picture!!" My husband tells me we can't - he doesn't know where we are or where we are going… and - of course - there's no cell service. He assures me that we will come back this way far enough to get to the field so I can photograph the donkeys. (Nice guy, huh?)

So, I'm antsy until we pull up on the field and my heart dropped. The donkeys are no longer walking along the fence line in the beautiful field of wildflowers. They are laying down for their afternoon siesta.

DSC_6353Not exactly the shot I was looking for. Looks like the donkey has been a victim of a tractor drive-by shooting. See the field? Absolutely beautiful… with a donkey on its feet! It was suggested to me that I photoshop the donkey into the photo, but it's just not the same.

So… fast forward to this fall. My husband is playing golf with his dad in a tournament, and I take the day to wander around taking photos. I just am out and not really sure where I am… GPS sometimes gets me lost. To my surprise, I come around a curve and find my favorite field. There are no wildflowers, but there are donkeys!

DSC_2003The donkeys have become quite the joke with some of my photography friends. They get photoshopped into some pictures here and there… you never know when a donkey will show up!
